Brass Monkey bar to reopen with new owner
By Andrea Kszystyniak / World-Herald staff writer

The Brass Monkey will reopen with a brand new owner later this year.

Kevin Tworek, the original owner and operator of the sports and craft beer bar, reacquired it after bar operator Barry Hofmaster closed the bar in mid-January. Brock Hatterman, owner of The Village Bar in Ralston, will rent the bar from Tworek and operate it.

Tworek originally planned to reopen the bar himself but said he doesn’t have the time. He operates Mr. Butts Tobacco and Snacks across the street.

Hatterman said he wants to bring the Brass Monkey, at 5611 S. 36th St., back to what it once was. He plans to continue to focus on craft beers and also wants to expand on the bar’s whiskey and bourbon menu. He also plans to craft a signature bloody mary menu.

“We’re not really going classy, but there will be a few different things down there, different options than just a normal neighborhood bar,” Hatterman said.

Tworek and Hatterman said they hope to have the bar open by St. Patrick’s Day. They’re not sure if that will be possible; the bar is still waiting for a liquor license.
