311 to headline new local music fest in July
By Kevin Coffey / World-Herald staff writer

An all-local music festival this summer will be headlined by the biggest local band of them all: Omaha native 311.

The Grassroots Music Festival is so named because it includes local bands and because it falls on July 12, the 20th anniversary of “Grassroots,” the band's second album.

L.A.-based reggae-rock band 311 got its start in Omaha. The group has No. 1 alternative songs with “Down” and a cover of The Cure's “Love Song.”

“Stereolithic,” 311's new album, is scheduled to be released on March 11 (or 3/11).

Three to four local bands will play at the festival alongside 311 and DJ TriChrome. The full lineup will be announced at a later date.

The Hive Rock Club and Gallery, a 311-themed bar, will also host pre-parties on July 10 and 11, featuring bands that have performed on 311's past Caribbean cruises.

The concert will take place at 3:11 p.m. at River's Edge Park in Council Bluffs. Tickets — $20 at The Hive, $25 via Ticketmaster and $30 at the door — go on sale March 11.
