Trojans complete sweep of Bluejays

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Arkansas-Little Rock quieted Creighton’s bats again as the Trojans won 7-1 Sunday, completing a three-game sweep.

Arkansas-Little Rock knocked around Creighton starter Austin Groth. He allowed six earned runs and eight hits in 2-1/3 innings.

The Trojans scored twice in the bottom of the first before Creighton cut its deficit to 2-1 in the second. The Bluejays strung together three hits, capped by Brett Murray’s RBI double to right-center that scored Reagan Fowler.

But Arkansas-Little Rock pulled away by scoring four runs in the bottom of the third. The key hit was Mitchell Scheuler’s three-run home run, which made it 6-1.

Creighton couldn’t muster much offensively after that as it had one hit over the last seven innings. Arkansas-Little Rock starter Cameron Allen pitched the first seven innings, allowing three hits and striking out a career-high six. He retired the last 16 batters he faced.

The Jays used seven pitchers after Groth, with no one throwing more than an inning. CU returns to action Friday against Minnesota in Fort Myers, Fla.
