Dr. Christopher Youngman wants your kids to put him to the test.
Youngman is the newest member of Gretna’s growing medical community. The pediatrician recently opened the doors to the Children’s Physician’s office just off the corner of Highways 6 and 31 at Schram Road.
“I love all of general pediatrics,” Youngman said. “It really creates a lot of diversity in your day. It’s never boring because there’s always a lot of variation. You see children of all ages and get to see them when they’re well, not just when they’re sick.
“Our doors are open and we’re welcoming patients.”
The clinic opened in the middle of January, and Youngman is the only doctor currently in the office. Two nurses, lead RN Regina Pederson and Courtney Lux, are also in the office. There’s also a behavioral health specialist and a care coordinator available at the new Children’s Physicians.
“It’s been a little bit busier than I expected, especially being a brand new location and being a new physician to the area,” he said. “Hopefully, we continue to pick up, though. We’ve been providing services for people who live out here and already have a Children’s physician. We like to think of ourself as one clinic with 12 locations.”
Youngman relocated to the Gretna office from a practice in southeast Iowa. He recently moved his family into the Gretna school district and his children will attend Palisades Elementary.
“Being the first one out here is exciting,” Youngman said. “It’s fun to be able to come out here and make sure we’re doing it right. Meeting new families has been a pleasure for me.”
Youngman has been practicing general pediatrics for more than 10 years, the last six and a half in Iowa. The Gretna clinic is open five days a week. The office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except for Tuesdays when Youngman will see patients from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Saturday clinics are shared with the Mission Village Children’s Physicians at 168th and Q streets in Millard.
The Gretna clinic can hold up to three pediatricians, and Youngman said they’re already interviewing to fill at least one of those spots. He said Children’s is looking for the right fit for Gretna.
“It could be within a few months, or it could take a year,” he said. “We’re not in a rush, but we definitely want to get another pediatrician out here.”
For now, the doctor is in, and that doctor is Youngman.
“It’s a phenomenal opportunity,” he said. “One of the exciting aspects that drew me to this job was just to work with Children’s Physicians itself. It’s a fantastic organization that focuses on pediatric care, which is really nice.”
