Nebraska crushes New Mexico State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Nebraska's third softball game of the season started late but ended early and just the way the Huskers hoped it would.

Ten hits — including three doubles and two home runs — powered the Huskers to an 11-0, five-inning victory over New Mexico State at the Hotel Encanto Invitational.

After taking a 3-0 lead after three innings, Nebraska exploded for eight runs in the top of the fifth inning at the New Mexico State softball complex.

Left fielder Kylee Muir and second baseman Hailey Decker both had home runs while center fielder Kiki Stokes and catcher Taylor Edwards each had multi-hit games. Stokes was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored while Edwards was 3 for 3 with two runs scored.

Pitcher Tatum Edwards scattered four hits and the Husker defense supported that effort by committing just one error.

Nebraska has a rematch with Florida State at 10 a.m. Sunday to close out the tournament. The No. 9 Huskers rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh inning Friday to beat the 16th-ranked Seminoles 4-3.
