Huskers face tough test with Penn State

LINCOLN — The Nebraska gymnastics team faces another tough assignment this weekend.

The eighth-ranked Huskers, 5-0 and 2-0 in the Big Ten, travel to No. 23 Penn State on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Nittany Lions are 8-1 and 2-0.

The NU men also will be competing against Penn State.

The Husker women scored a season-best 196.975 last weekend against No. 14 Minnesota. NU also posted season-high scores on bars (49.325) and floor (49.350).

“I am really proud of my team,” coach Dan Kendig said. “I thought we had a really great week of practice. I really think that makes a difference, and it is even better to see that difference in competition.”

Senior Emily Wong once again led the Huskers with four event titles including the all-around crown with a score of 39.525. Wong’s efforts included a season-high on vault (9.925), a career-high tie on bars (9.95), and a season-high tie on floor (9.95). Wong has now collected 13 event titles this season.

In the national rankings, Wong is fourth in the all-around (39.513) and tied for third on floor (9.931), 24th on vault (9.875) and is eighth on bars (9.894). Jennifer Lauer earned a tie for fourth on bars (9.90) and is also tied for sixth on beam (9.888).
