A Lincoln couple and their daughter were killed Saturday in a car-semitrailer collision on Interstate 80 near Utica, Neb.
The Nebraska State Patrol said the driver of the 1995 Honda Civic involved in the crash was going too fast for the icy road conditions.
The driver, Ranulfo Martinez Lopez, 42; his wife, Maria Fernandez, 39; and their 6-year old daughter, Amy Lopez, died in the crash, said Deb Collins, a State Patrol spokeswoman.
The driver of the semitrailer truck, Yves LaTour, 60, of Quebec City, was not injured.
The crash occurred shortly after 8 a.m.
Eastbound lanes of I-80 between Utica and Beaver Crossing were closed for more than five hours. Westbound lanes reopened after two hours.
Lopez was driving west in the Civic when he lost control on the icy surface, crossed the median and struck the eastbound semitrailer, Collins said.
The State Patrol was assisted in the investigation by the Nebraska Department of Roads, sheriff's deputies from Seward and Hall Counties and the Seward County attorney.
