VILLANOVA, Pa. — Despite a season-high 26 points from senior Sarah Nelson, Creighton fell to Villanova 68-54 on Saturday.
The Bluejays (13-9, 7-3 Big East) led 11-5 behind two baskets apiece by Nelson and senior McKenzie Fujan.
Villanova (16-5, 6-4) responded with a 12-4 run to take an 18-15 lead. After Marissa Janning tied the game with her only 3-pointer, the Wildcats scored 16 of the next 19 points to build a 34-21 lead. They led 38-27 at halftime.
Fujan knocked down two free throws to open the second half, but the Bluejays missed their first seven shots as Villanova pushed its lead to 52-31 with 11:44 remaining.
Creighton made one last run, cutting the lead to 58-45 at the 5:36 mark. Villanova responded with two baskets and coasted to the win.
Nelson, a senior from Omaha Westside, also had 11 rebounds to post her second straight double-double. Fujan, a graduate of Wahoo Neumann, added 12 points.
Together, they combined to shoot 13 of 23 (57 percent) from the field, but the rest of the Bluejays were a combined 3 of 26 (12 percent).
Caroline Coyer scored 19 points to lead four Wildcats in double figures.
The Bluejays next play at 7 p.m. Wednesday when they host Georgetown at D.J. Sokol Arena.
