GIBBON, Neb. — Demolition has begun on the former Midwest Meat Packing Facilities plant in Gibbon.
Cargill Inc. purchased the plant for $62,564 on Dec. 23, according to court documents.
Midwest Meat Packing Facilities filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in December 2012. Midwest Meat Packing, which processed turkeys, owed $4.5 million to its creditors at the time.
Tim Coppage of Cargill Ag Horizons in Shelton said Cargill has no plans for the property.
Demolition is expected to be finished by the end of February.
The plant had long been a fixture in Gibbon’s economy. At peak production, it produced 32 million pounds of turkey.
