A Douglas County judge on Tuesday ordered an 18-year-old high school student to stand trial on murder and weapon charges.
Mitchell Q. Wynne remains in the Douglas County Jail without bail.
Prosecutors say Wynne killed Darnell P. Haynes, 29, during a marijuana deal.
Wynne, a senior and Northwest High football player, was arrested and charged in December in the July 14 shooting death of Haynes.
He was shot about 3:20 p.m. outside the Mid-K Beauty Supply store near 60th Street and Ames Avenue.
Haynes and Wynne exchanged text message about marijuana shortly before Haynes died. Wynne also texted a picture of a 9 mm gun to his friends and bragged that he “got his first body,” authorities say.
Judge Darryl Lowe said there was enough evidence for Wynne to be tried on charges of first-degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
