Bail was set at $1 million Monday for the accused driver of a stolen vehicle that was spotted speeding away from the Omaha neighborhood where 5-year-old Payton Benson was shot and killed.
Jacob Brown, 21, was charged with theft by receiving, a felony. He is the sixth man arrested in connection with a stolen Jeep Commander that prosecutors say was involved in a gunbattle Jan. 13.
A stray bullet from the street battle struck Payton as she ate breakfast with her mother and little brother inside their home near 45th and Emmet Streets.
Her funeral was Thursday.
Five other men – three facing theft charges and two facing gun charges – have also been arrested. Their bail also was set at $1 million each.
None of the men have been charged in Payton's death.
