Grand Island Mayor Jay Vavricek has recommended that retired Grand Island Senior High Principal Kent Mann and Grand Island businessman Mark Stelk be appointed to the Grand Island City Council.
“Kent Mann and Mark Stelk both are longtime members of the community, and their history of contributions, dynamic leadership, and commitment to Grand Island can easily be seen when looking at their chosen career fields and extensive involvement in the community,” Vavricek said.
Mann would represent Ward 1, which was represented by Bob Niemann until Jan. 15. Niemann retired from Central Community College last fall and recently moved to rural Cairo, Neb.
Stelk, who owns and operates General Collection, would fill the Ward 2 seat vacated by Scott Dugan when he resigned in November due to personal reasons.
The mayor’s recommendation goes to the City Council for ratification during the council’s meeting Tuesday. If approved, Mann and Stelk will begin service immediately for terms that end in December 2016.
