COUNCIL BLUFFS — A group that promotes downtown activity has a new name meant to better reflect its purpose.
Bluffs Downtown replaces the former name, Main Street Council Bluffs Inc.
“We wanted a name that readily conveys our mission,” said Joshua Barbee, executive director.
The name change was recently approved by the organization’s board of directors, he said. The group’s longtime goal remains the same.
“Bluffs Downtown is working to engage Council Bluffs and Omaha residents to live, invest, work and play in historic downtown Council Bluffs,” he said. “We will achieve this by developing a cultural and entertainment district for the 100 block of West Broadway.”
This year will be the best yet for downtown area activities, said Matt Johnson, the group’s promotion chief.
“We are organizing three street dances, three fun runs, two nighttime bike rides and, hopefully, a harvest-type festival,” he said. “Of course, the farmers market will continue to be held Thursdays in the 100 block of West Broadway, May through September.”
The next event is a concert Saturday by Nashville recording artist Reggie Shaw at the Rodeo Saloon and BBQ, 164 W. Broadway. The show begins at 9 p.m. and there is no cover charge.
