New luxury apartments have hit the downtown housing market – and a new bar is on the way.
The Fairbanks Building, formerly home to The Antiquarium bookstore at 1215 Harney St., is now open for preleasing of its 12 luxury apartments. We reported on the renovation of the building in September. Rents for the one- and two-bedroom apartments – some feature lofts – will range from $950 per month to $1,845, developer Matt Dougherty said.
The building, which is undergoing finishing work now, will include a bar in the basement that will feature live music as well as a to-be-announced tenant on the ground floor.
Dougherty, of Dougherty Management, said he has spoken to a handful of restaurants about the space.
The Harney Street Tavern, located in the building's basement, expects to be open by mid-February. Owner and live music fan Brady Bock said he thought the downtown live music scene was lacking a little, and wanted to fill the void.
“The whole vision for it is just to kind of create a cool atmosphere for performers to put their music out there downtown,” Bock said, adding that it will feature acoustic, jazz, bluegrass, folk and singer songwriter musicians along with a large craft beer offering and classic cocktails.
