James Darrah, director of Opera Omaha's coming production of “Agrippina,” and Oscar-winning cinematographer Mauro Fiore (“Avatar”) will lead a discussion after a Wednesday screening of “The Conformist” at Film Streams, Omaha's nonprofit arthouse movie theater.

The 7 p.m. screening and discussion will explore the ways the movie influenced the set and costume design of “Agrippina” and Fiore's work as a cinematographer.

Italian director Bernardo Bertolluci's “The Conformist” (1970) is a visually stunning movie in which a weak-willed Italian man becomes a fascist flunky in the 1930s. He goes abroad to arrange the assassination of his old teacher, now a political dissident.

George Frideric Handel's “Agrippina” (1709) centers on the mother of Roman emperor Nero. When her husband dies, Agrippina uses seduction and deception to make sure her son takes the throne. Opera Omaha will stage it Feb. 14 and 16 at the Orpheum Theater.

Tickets to “The Conformist” are available at the Film Streams box office, 14th and Mike Fahey Streets, or online at http://j.mp/J9mMRW.
