Dining Notes: What should go in Blatt Beer's custom cask?
By Sarah Baker Hansen / World-Herald staff writer

Lincoln's Empyrean Brewing Company has created a custom cask for Blatt Beer and Table, and they want customers to help decide what goes in it.

The restaurant is asking its fans to vote on Facebook between a number of special infusions that can be added to Empyrean's Fallen Angel Sweet Stout. Voters can choose two of the six available ingredients: chai, Frangelico, mint, maple, chocolate or vanilla bean.

The poll continues through Jan. 29 and the restaurant will tap the beer Feb. 20 during Omaha Beer Week.

For more information and a link to the poll, click here.

Skinny margaritas

Cantina Laredo is introducing new Skinny Margaritas that are 130 to 140 calories each and — here's the most interesting part — each is garnished with a piece of hollow fruit filled with liqueur.

The spicy Caliente Flaca Flip is made with Hornitos tequila, triple sec, fresh lime juice, orange slices, jalapeńo bits and club soda and is garnished with a jalapeńo filled with ginger liqueur; the fruity Citrus Burst Flaca Flip is garnished with a lemon filled with citrus vodka and the Peach Berry Flaca Flip is garnished with a hollow strawberry full of strawberry pucker.

The restaurant is in Midtown Crossing. For more information, call 402-345-6000.

“Transcendence,” a sci-fi thriller about an attempt to meld the human mind with technology, falls far short of transcendence. So far short I had to fight off sleep.
