A 32-year-old Omaha man convicted of operating a car at over 100 mph to avoid arrest was sentenced Monday to 20 to 60 months in prison by a Saunders County judge.
Joshua A. Peterson also had his driver's license revoked for two years by Saunders County Judge Mary Gilbride. Peterson, who must serve at least 10 months, will be credited with 122 days served in jail.
Saunders County Attorney Scott Tingelhoff said Peterson was involved in a high-speed pursuit that began in Lancaster County and ended with a crash in Omaha on Sept. 14. A Nebraska State Patrol sergeant said he spotted Peterson driving a stolen Honda Accord on Interstate 80 near Ashland at between 100 and 120 mph.
The Honda was observed weaving through traffic, forcing vehicles onto the shoulder of the road and nearly causing several accidents, Tingelhoff said. The pursuit ended when Peterson crashed into a parked car.
