Walmart will open two new Omaha stores Wednesday.
The new 175,000-square-foot Walmart Supercenter at 5018 Ames Ave. will open Wednesday at 8 a.m. after a 7:30 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Also at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Walmart will open its sixth Omaha-area Neighborhood Market, the retailer's smaller grocery store format. The new 29,000-square-foot store at 2541 N. 90th St. will open after a 7:30 a.m. ribbon cutting.
The Supercenter, under construction since last February, was built on the site of a vacant grocery store. It will employ about 300 part- and full-time employees. The store will include a pharmacy, groceries, apparel, electronics, sporting goods, toys and lawn and garden items.
The store's regular hours will be 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week. This will be Walmart's 34th Nebraska Supercenter.
The Neighborhood Market will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and feature a full grocery department, including a bakery, self-serve deli and pharmacy. It will employ about 85 full- and part-time employees.
Both of the new stores will host a “Family Welcome” celebration Jan. 18. from noon to 3 p.m. Free food samples and family-friendly activities are planned at both locations.
Seven Neighborhood Markets are planned for the Omaha area. A seventh store that's being built on the site of the former Target on Saddle Creek Road is expected to open later this year.
