Construction kicks off on Papillion Sam's Club

Construction is underway on Papillion's new Sam's Club. Papillion Mayor David Black, Sam's Club officials and representatives of the Sarpy County Chamber of Commerce and the Lerner Co. attended a ground breaking ceremony Tuesday morning.

More than 100 people will be hired to staff the 136,000-square-foot store, which is slated to open this fall at the northeast corner of 72nd Street and Cornhusker Road.

Black said the store is a “big deal” for Papillion from several perspectives. Many small businesses use Sam's Club as a supplier, so having a warehouse store close by will be convenient for them. Sam's Club will join Hobby Lobby and Walgreens in the Settlers Creek Development, and a Dunkin' Donuts opened last year at the southeast corner of the intersection.

“That's becoming a high-traffic corridor,” Black said, which he expects to draw other businesses. A Brakes Plus is already under construction just south of Dunkin' Donuts.
