Additional training for inspectors and expanded online permitting are among a list of changes coming to the Omaha Planning Department.
Mayor Jean Stothert said Thursday that the department is reorganizing in an effort to make the inspections process run more smoothly.
The section of the department that handles code enforcement for housing inspections, currently in the Housing and Community Development Division, will be moved to the departments' Building and Development Division.
All of the department's housing inspectors will report to Assistant Planning Director Jay Davis.
“We will be implementing a very aggressive program to provide inspectors with the education and tools to properly perform their jobs,” he said. “Our work is too complex to not equip the inspectors with the proper tools.”
Stothert said the department also plans to form a new task force that will include property owners and representatives from neighborhood organizations.
