Despite the biting cold of the past few days, the Midlands was far from setting records.
Farther east, communities are expected to break their daily records, said Brian Edwards of AccuWeather, The World-Herald's weather consultant.
During the Arctic outbreak, Omaha's low bottomed out at 11 degrees below zero Monday morning. The high peaked at 4 degrees above zero.
That's far from the records.
The record low for Jan. 6 was 22 degrees below zero in 1887.
The coldest day on record was in 1912 when the mercury failed to climb above 10 degrees below zero.
The average high for Omaha at this time of year is 33 degrees; the average low is 14 degrees.
