Broncos 4-1, Cougars blanked in Sutton Duals

SUTTON – The second half of the 2013-14 wrestling season officially got underway for the Centennial Broncos and the Cross County/Osceola Cougars on Friday at the Sutton Duals.

The Broncos went 4-1 with wins over CC/Osceola 48-9, South Central 39-34, Wood River 42-39 and Thayer Central 48-27.

The team's only loss was a 48-30 setback to Sutton.

Centennial, Sutton and Wood River all finished the day with a record of 4-1. South Central was 2-3, Thayer Central 1-4 and CC/Osceola went 0-5.

The Cougars' losses, other than Centennial, came to Sutton 53-30, Thayer Central 48-28, South Central 46-21 and Wood River 54-24.

The Broncos who finished the day with undefeated records included Doyle Trout (120), Steven Bader (138), Andrew Bader (160) and Cory Kennedy at 182.

Trout, the No. 1 rated wrestler in the York area, needed less than four minutes to pick up his three wins. The other two were by forfeit.

Steven Bader had four wins at 138 and one came at 145. All of his wins came by pin.

Andrew Bader recorded four wins by pin and one came as a result of a forfeit. His longest match of the day was a 1:36 with Dallas Bruning of South Central.

Kennedy, scored three wins by pin, one by forfeit and the fifth came on an 11-8 decision over Kelly Cliffords of CC/Osceola.

The Cougars' best two performances were turned in by Cliffords at 182, as he won a 7-2 decision over South Central's Logan Searle, and in his other contested match he pinned Keaton Husak of Wood River in 1:57.

At 285, Hunter Miller posted a 4-1 mark as he won two matches by forfeit, won a 5-4 decision over Bryce Wright of Centennial and scored his other win in 17 seconds over Colton Fangmeier of Thayer Central.

At the 152 weight class, Erik Oquist posted a 4-1 mark as he was in action all five matches. The Cougar grappler defeated his four opponents by pin with his only loss coming to Cody Krula of Thayer Central.

Other wrestlers who finished with better than .500 records were, Connor Luettel of Centennial 3-2 at 170, Wright with a mark of 3-2, Davey Payne 3-1 at 126 and Adrian Turrabiates, 3-2 at 132.
