While theaters have not yet announced their 2013-14 seasons, several widely anticipated shows open in the first half of this year:
“War Horse,” April 8-13.
This Broadway touring drama about the friendship between a boy and his horse will play at the Orpheum.
“Wicked,” May 7-25.
This takeoff on “The Wizard of Oz” returns to Omaha as a Broadway touring musical at the Orpheum.
“Next to Normal,” Feb. 7-March 16.
The Playhouse puts on this musical about bipolar disorder.
“Jackie & Me,” Feb. 28-March 16.
This show celebrating baseball great Jackie Robinson is at the Rose Theater.
“Tarzan,” June 6-22.

The Blue Barn Theatre is staging this play about Beethoven, ALS, mothers and daughters.

The Omaha Community Playhouse will launch its 90th season this fall with Hilary Adams as its new artistic director.
Retiring directors Carl Beck and Susan Baer Collins will make “Young Frankenstein” their last Playhouse show May 30-June 29. Beck has been full time at the Playhouse for 30 years, Collins for 26.
Scenic designer Jim Othuse ushers in his 40th year at the Playhouse this fall.
The Blue Barn Theatre, finishing up its 25th season, will break ground in the spring on a new performance space at 10th and Pacific Streets. It's expected to open in 2015.
New scripts by local playwrights will be staged at SNAP (Joe Basque's “Battle of Battles”) April 17-May 11 and at the Shelterbelt (Daena Schweiger's “Voices From the Closet”) May 29-June 22.
