There have been just 12 winners of “American Idol,” and only one of them got started in Omaha.
David Cook auditioned here in 2007 before going all the way to win the show's seventh season. Cook will return to Omaha Sunday to perform at The Waiting Room Lounge — tickets are $20 in advance or $25 day of show — and we thought we'd count down our favorite “Idol” winners.
Most people don't even remember that Underwood, an extremely successful country singer, was on the show in the first place. Way to put your past behind you, Carrie.
Another country success story to come out of “Idol.” We dig McCreery's tunes “I Love You This Big” and “The Trouble with Girls.”
We have a soft spot for Cook after his Omaha launch, and we're also impressed that Cook is pushing on with his rock band. He is expected to put out a third studio album early this year.
The youngest winner in the show's history is also the one with the best pipes. And we're happy to hear that the actress is returning to music after a four-year hiatus, with a new single released in 2013 and more to come this year.
You can't beat the original. 'Nuff said.
