Storm wins Friend Tournament

FRIEND - Wins over Palmyra 60-38 and Friend 72-35 ran the High Plains Storm boys’ basketball record to 7-0 this past weekend at the Friend Holiday Basketball Tournament.

Palmyra (1-8) actually took a 9-6 lead at the end of the first eight minutes in the tournament opener, but after that it was all High Plains, which won the second quarter 16-14 and the second half going away 38-15 for the 22-point margin of victory.

Logan Fleming scored a game high 27 points to lead the Storm while Cole Klingsporn added 12.

The Palmyra Panthers were led by R. Reynoldsen with 14 and Alex Thomsen with nine.

HP was 20-59 from the field, but just 1-19 from the 3-point circle. The Storm was 19-40 at the charity stripe.

Palmyra finished 14-32, 1-7 from 3-point range and 13-25 at the free throw line.

In the title game against the Friend Bulldogs, High Plains wasted very little time and ran out to a 29-8 first quarter lead. Friend could not get back into the game.

HP led 40-19 at the half and a 23-10 run in the third quarter by the Storm solidified their seventh win in as many games.

Fleming pumped in 22, Klingsporn 14 and Tyler Martin, Logan Engel and Cale Harless all finished with seven.

FHS was led by David Segner with 12 and Josh Nickel with eight.

HP was 29-51 from the field overall, 2-12 from the 3-point arc and 12-18 at the charity stripe.

High Plains (7-0) will host Shelby-Rising City Friday, Jan. 3 in both girls and boys action.

The High Plains girls went 0-2 in the tournament losing to Palmyra 50-24 and East Butler 51-44.

No details were available for either game.
