Bootsy Collins will make Christmas funky.
One of the greatest bassists and bandleaders in the history of funk music, Collins will bring his band to Omaha on Friday for his “Funky Jingle Jam” holiday concert.
Collins and his band, The Pacesetters, were James Brown’s backing group for a time and Collins later joined George Clinton’s Parliament-Funkadelic outfit, from which he later spun off Bootsy’s Rubber Band.
Some of Collins’ most memorable contributions are on songs such as Brown’s “Get Up, I Feel Like Being a Sex Machine” and Parliament’s “Tear the Roof Off the Sucker.”
On Friday, expect to hear selections from Collins’ lone holiday album, “Christmas is 4 Ever.” The album includes Collins’ signature funk progressions on classics such as “Merry Christmas Baby,” “Jingle Belz” and “Silent Night.”
