MARYVILLE, Mo. — Northwest Missouri State defensive end Matt Longacre was named the 2013 Daktronics defensive player of the year on Thursday.
Defensive back Brandon Dixon and offensive lineman Cody Carlson were also named first-team All-America selections. Chadron State’s Glen Clinton was picked for the second team.
Also Thursday, Longacre and Carlson were picked for the Associated Press Little All-America team. University of Nebraska at Kearney left tackle Cole Manhart also was chosen.
Doane lineman Dillon Carmichael was picked for the second team and Chadron State running back Glen Clinton for the third team.
Longacre, a 6-foot-3, 240-pounder from Millard West, has accounted for 54 stops, including 19.5 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks for the nation’s No. 7-ranked total defense. The Bearcats allowed 286.5 yards per game.
Northwest plays Lenoir-Rhyne at 11 a.m. Saturday for the Division II national championship. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
