311 bar The Hive will close until it gets liquor license, will then open at 3:11 p.m. every day
By Andrea Kszystyniak / World-Herald staff writer

The Hive Lounge in Old Market will be closed this weekend. The bar has been operating on a temporary license for the past few weekends, and the license has expired.

Owner Jake Gardner said he wanted to open over Thanksgiving weekend because he had a bunch of bands scheduled for the bar's first few weeks. He also wanted the opportunity to show the bar to everyone in town for the holiday. When the venue’s liquor license didn’t come through in time, he was able to use a temporary license, called a special designated license. He got this through Clancy’s, which is owned by his lawyer.

The venue, located at 1207 Harney St., will be using this extra time to finish the final bit of construction necessary on the space.

Gardner said he hopes that the bar will receive its Class C license at some point next week. Once the license is approved, the bar will be open every day at 3:11 p.m. The bar is also planning to have a New Year’s Eve celebration.
