A new Shopko Hometown store is coming to Valentine, Neb.

The 36,000-square-foot store will be built at 525 E. Highway 20. Shopko Hometown stores are located in rural communities and offer home furnishings, apparel, toys, electronics, consumable goods, lawn and garden products and a pharmacy and health services section.

Valentine’s current Shopko Pharmacy, located at 272 North Main, will move into the new store when it opens this spring. A grand opening will be held in May.
Twenty to 25 employees will be hired to staff the store, about 10 of whom will be full-time.

Shopko Hometown stores are smaller than Shopko stores, which average 75,000 square feet. Shopko has more than 180 Hometown stores, which were formerly Pamida stores before Shopko purchased the brand last year and promised a larger selection of brand-name products.
