GREELEY, Colo. — The UNO women’s basketball team couldn’t hold on to a second-half lead Saturday against Northern Colorado in a 78-73 loss.
The Mavs (3-5) led 57-50 in the second half before the Bears (4-3) scored seven straight to tie it with 7:51 to go. The first five points of the run came on free throws after the Mavs reached the bonus.
After the teams traded baskets, Northern Colorado took the lead for good at 68-65 with 3:15 to go. UNO had a chance to tie, but Ericka House’s 3-pointer from the wing with five seconds left was off the mark and the Bears clinched it with a pair of free throws.
Felicia Anderson matched her career high with 20 points to pace the Mavs. The 5-foot-6 junior college transfer from Menlo Park, Calif., hit 6 of 12 from 3-point range.
House finished with 18 points, but went just 6 of 16 from the field, while Mikaela Shaw added nine points and 11 rebounds.
Stephanie Lee had a game-high 31 points with nine rebounds to lead the Bears, who qualified for the WNIT last season.
UNO returns home for a pair of games this week, hosting Air Force at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Eureka at 7 p.m. Thursday.
