COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Colorado College scored twice in the second period to take the lead for good as the Tigers opened a weekend hockey series with a 4-2 win over 16th-ranked UNO.
Colorado College (2-10-2) snapped a 12-game winless streak, while UNO fell to 5-2 in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference and 8-7 overall.
It was UNO’s first road game since early November after enjoying a 4-2 homestand.
Colorado College struck first as Alex Krushelnyski scored on a rebound with at 11:14 in the first period. But UNO’s Ian Brady tied it at 1-1 heading to the first intermission as he scored a power-play goal. Jake Guentzel and Brock Monpetit were credited with assists on the goal.
But Colorado College scored twice in the second period to open a 3-1 lead. Jared Hanson got the Tigers’ first goal in the period at 6:06, then Sam Rothstein added another at 14:30.
UNO pulled within 3-2 midway through the third period on a goal by Zahn Raubenheimer on a pass from Johnnie Searfoss.
But Jeff Collett tacked on another goal at 13:31 after a turnover for the Tigers.
UNO goalie Ryan Massa finished with 24 saves and saw his personal five-game winning streak come to an end.
The teams conclude their series on Saturday at 8:07 p.m.
