Woman, 30, arrested in fatal north Omaha shooting

Omaha police arrested a 30-year-old Omaha woman Sunday in connection with the shooting death of Dawn Truman.

Officer Michael Pecha, a police spokesman, said Latoya N. Ross is accused of shooting Truman, 41, of Omaha about 4:45 p.m. Saturday.

The shooting occurred at 3602 Patrick Ave., the home of David Beckman, 37.

Beckman said Monday that he wasn't home when the shooting occurred, and doesn't know what happened.

He knew the victim only slighty, he said, and knows nothing about the accused killer. Neither woman lived at the house, he said.

Pecha said Truman was dead when firefighters and police arrived.

Ross was arrested at 1:30 p.m. and booked into the Douglas County Correctional Center on suspicion of first-degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

The killing was the 43rd in Omaha this year.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 444-STOP (7867), or log on to omahacrimestoppers.net. You also can text OPD and your tip to CRIMES (274637) or go through the mobile iPhone/Android app “Tip Submit.”

Tipsters always remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward up to $1,000.
