Douglas County prosecutors dropped charges against two Californians who had been accused of transporting $1.5 million worth of cocaine.
The charges were dropped Sept. 25, five days after the two were ticketed. The prosecutor working the case could not be reached Friday.
Jaime Quinonez, 23, and Priscilla Pinedo, 28, were stopped on eastbound Interstate 80 near 96th Street on suspicion of following too closely, said Chief Deputy Tom Wheeler on the day of the arrest.
Sheriff's deputies and a canine unit found 41.5 pounds of cocaine in a hidden compartment of their 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche, Wheeler said.
Quinonez, the driver, and Pinedo were both charged with possession of 140 grams or more of cocaine before the charges were dismissed.
