Thieves left the Burke High baseball field in the dark last month when they stole an estimated $7,000 in copper wiring from three outfield light poles.
Burke High baseball coach Scott Hodges reported the theft to the Omaha Police Department on Oct. 28. That day, a parent noticed damage to the light poles in left, right and center fields near the school at 12200 Burke Blvd., Hodges told police.
The last time the lights had been used was the night of Oct. 15. The Omaha Public Schools called an electric company to make the light poles safe and received an estimate of $7,000 to $8,000 to repair the damages, according to the police report.
