Special meal deals Monday for veterans and military personnel



Several restaurants in the Omaha area will offer free food Monday to active and former military members. Note that some restaurants offer meals to active-duty and retirees only, not all veterans.

Applebees (multiple locations): Veterans and active-duty military can choose from a free signature Thank You Meal menu. Must present valid veteran's form of identification or be in uniform.

Cheeseburger in Paradise, 17304 Davenport St.: All-American Burger with fries for active and retired military with proof of service. Dine-in only; must purchase a beverage.

Fox & Hound Sports Tavern, 506 N. 120th St.: Veterans and active-duty military will receive any burger free from 11 a.m. on. Dine-in only; limit one per person. Proof of military service required.

Golden Corral (multiple locations): 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. free buffet and beverage to any veteran or active-duty service member. No identification is required.

Hy--Vee Supermarkets: All Hy-Vee stores with a kitchen will offer a free breakfast buffet for all active-duty and veterans. Hours vary by store.

Olive Garden (multiple locations): All veterans and military active duty will receive a free meal from a special menu. Also, throughout November current military service members and their families get 10 percent off.

Red Robin (multiple locations): All veterans and active-duty military get a free Tavern Double Burger and Bottomless Steak Fries.

Sizzler, 5132 L St.: Active-duty and retired military members with proof of military service get a free lunch from a set menu until 4 p.m.

Texas Roadhouse (multiple locations): Military personnel — active-duty, retired or veteran — can choose one of 10 free entrees, sides dishes and a choice of beverage during lunch. Proof of service required.

TGI Fridays, 10000 California St. in Westroads Mall: Veterans and active-duty military personnel are invited for free lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Egg & I (multiple locations): Veterans will receive free coffee, tea or soda from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Travel Centers of America (Council Bluffs at exit 3 of Interstate 80 to I-29, and in Grand Island, Neb., and Ogallala, Neb.): All CDL drivers who are military veterans eat free at participating full-service restaurants with proof of service.

Twin Peaks, 17330 West Center Road: All active and retired members of the Armed Forces are invited for lunch or dinner to select any meal from the menu.

Other area businesses also will offer these special savings or activities:

Great Clips (multiple locations): Veterans who visit a Great Clips on Monday will receive a free haircut that day or a free haircut card to redeem by Dec. 31 at any Great Clips throughout the U.S. The promotion applies to active, inactive and retired military members of any branch. Any nonmilitary customer who purchases a service Monday will receive a free haircut card to give to a veteran for use by Dec. 31. Limit one card per customer.

Marcus Theaters (Lincoln Grand Cinema, Village Pointe Cinema in Omaha and Twin Creek Cinema in Bellevue): Free admission Monday only for active military personnel and veterans with military identification to “Honor Flight: One Last Mission.” The documentary is about World War II veterans visiting their memorial in Washington, D.C., but is not about the Honor Flights from Nebraska or Iowa. Monday's showings will be at 2:35 p.m. and 7 p.m. Admission for nonmilitary on Veterans Day will be $5.

Massage Envy (multiple locations): A free one-hour massage will be given to any active duty military personnel or military veteran Monday during regular business hours, which vary by location. Making an appointment in advance is encouraged. A valid military ID must be presented.

Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is offering free gate admission to all veterans and their immediate families between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Salvation Army Kroc Center, 2825 Y St.: All past and present service personnel and their immediate family will get free admission Saturday through Monday.
