Twenty western Iowa boys, four girls and one former coach will participate Saturday in the Iowa Association of Track Coaches' Senior All-Star cross country meet at Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny.
The coach of the Southwest team is former Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln coach Mick Freeman. He headed the boys program there for 48 years, and added the girls program for 11 of those years. He took nine teams and 24 individual qualifiers to the state meet in his career. Freeman retired from teaching in 2003 and ended his coaching career in 2011.
