The fourth annual Holiday Heroes Chili Cook Off will kick off Friday at 5:30 p.m.
The annual fundraiser, designed to raise money so that police officers and firefighters may take underprivileged children on a Christmas shopping spree, will last until 8:30 p.m.
The hotly contested event will be held at the Bellevue Volunteer Firefighters Hall at 2108 Franklin St. in Olde Towne.
Tickets cost $10, which allows participants to get a bowl of house chili, as well as sample chilis prepared by contestants. The entry fee also gives participants three tickets, to be used as votes to the contestants of their choice.
Additional tickets/votes may be purchased.
The event was won for the first two years by a team from the Bellevue Fire Department. Last year, the police department captured the People’s Choice Award for the first time.
Any contestant is eligible to win the prize.
A maximum of 18 teams are allowed to compete.
The Holiday Heroes program was begun by the police department in 2007 when it provided a Christmas shopping spree for 25 children.
Today the program brightens the Christmas holiday for about 100 children.
