The Omaha area’s fifth Walmart Neighborhood Market will open at 9460 Giles Road on Nov. 15 after a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m.
The store, to be open 24 hours per day, seven days a week, will offer a full grocery department, including organic items, a self-serve deli, bakery and pharmacy.
It will employ about 95 full- and part-time associates.
The store’s manager, Dewey Schager, began his Walmart career in 2009 as an assistant manager.
“I’m truly excited to help bring the La Vista community its only grocery store,” Schager said. “Our team is made up of members of the community, and everyone has been working hard together, and I feel lucky to be a part of it. We invite everyone in La Vista to join us for our grand-opening weekend celebration.”
A “Big Family Welcome” is planned for Nov. 16 from noon to 3 p.m., where customers will have a chance to meet Schager, enjoy free food samples, family activities such as face painting and cupcake decorating.
The grand opening will also feature presentations of $8,000 in grants from Walmart to local community groups, including the Boy Scouts of America La Vista troop, Food Bank for the Heartland, the La Vista Police Department, La Vista West Elementary School and the Papillion-La Vista School Foundation.
“The City of La Vista is proud to welcome Walmart Neighborhood Market to our business community,” Mayor Doug Kindig said. “We know Walmart will be a strong community partner and we look forward to an ongoing relationship in the future.”
The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, with about 300 of the small-scale grocery stores now open nationwide. Seven are planned for the Omaha metro area.
