LINCOLN — Gov. Dave Heineman announced Thursday that he will promote Kimberly Conroy to be the state’s new tax commissioner.
Conroy, 53, has been the deputy tax commissioner at the Department of Revenue since September 2008. Prior to that, she directed the department’s compliance division.
Before joining state government, she worked in the tax department at Union Pacific Railroad. She holds an associate’s degree from McCook Community College, a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a law degree from the University of Nebraska College of Law.
As tax commissioner, she will be responsible for the development of policies and procedures for revenue collection at the state and local levels, and for the administration and collection of all state revenues as provided by law.
Conroy replaces Doug Ewald, who resigned to take a job in the private sector. Her appointment will take effect Saturday. She will be paid an annual salary of $135,000.
