Who said eating and exercise don't mix?
At the Jones Bros. 5K on Saturday, runners will eat three mini cupcakes from the Aksarben Village shop along the 3.1-mile route.
“It's a twist,” said race director Ande Jorgenson of Red Dirt Running Company. “How fast can you eat three cupcakes and do a 5K? It's a fun atmosphere. It's not super competitive. You're out there to have a good time.”
Stinson Park in Aksarben Village is hosting the event. Runners will head north to Elmwood Park, loop around the area and return south on the Keystone Trail.
Red Dirt Running Company is timing the 5K for the first time this year. There will be prizes to the top three finishers in each category. Participants will also receive T-shirts.
A limited supply of shirts will be available for those who sign up the day of the run. Register for $45 online or in person on race day. All proceeds will benefit Make-A-Wish Nebraska.
The race starts at 8 a.m. For more information, click here.
