The saga to determine who will represent Ward I on the Bellevue City Council is over.
Steve Carmichael, a Republican, won a decisive victory Tuesday evening in the nonpartisan race.
Carmichael received 607 votes, while Dave Compton, another Republican, received 256 votes. Steve Dawes, the race's Democrat, earned 44 votes, while Libertarian Michael Knebel earned 41 votes.
Carmichael has a deep familiarity with the City of Bellevue after working at City Hall for 24 years, 17 of those as chief building official. He is currently chief building official for the City of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Carmichael was not immediately available for comment when the Sarpy County Election Commission released the results at 9:05 p.m. Tuesday.
Only 959 of 6,167 registered voters cast ballots, a turnout of 15.55 percent. Compton said his campaign experienced poor turnout at key precincts.
