Two dogs named Pelini and Osborne have been adopted from the Nebraska Humane Society.

Pam Wiese, a Humane Society spokeswoman, said a woman who recently lost her dog was in the process of taking Osborne and Pelini home. The woman read about the dogs in Tuesday's World-Herald.

Pelini, a 3-year-old Boxer mix, and Osborne, a 5-year-old Labrador-Siberian Husky mix, were surrendered to the shelter Aug. 30 because their family was moving.

“These guys have been a duo for a long period of time, and that tends to shape a dog's behavior,” Wiese said Monday. “That's why we are trying to have Pelini and Osborne adopted by the same family. We will do everything we can to adopt them out as a set.”

The Humane Society was offering a two-for-one price of $100 for the pair of males.

Wiese said it's not unusual for dogs to be presented as a set because the Humane Society wants the animals to feel as comfortable as possible in their new surroundings. Osborne and Pelini would be “lost without the other,” she said.

Pelini is the bigger of the two, weighing about 80 pounds. Osborne tips the scales at 57 pounds, Wiese said. They both have shown an aptitude for training and happily work with staffers at the shelter — especially when treats are involved.

Osborne and Pelini both have been neutered, had all their shots and had microchips implanted in case they fail to return from an away game. The volunteers got such a kick out of the dogs they put together a video of the pair, complete with their version of the tunnel walk and the Husker fight song.

“These dogs are really a fun pair and are just very good together,” Wiese said. “You could say they have each other's backs.”
