The Sarpy/Cass Department of Health and Wellness’ Safe Kids program is offering free child safety seat inspections.
Nationally certified car seat technicians show parents how to properly install the safety seats, said Jane Husz, Safe Kids coordinator. Ideally, parents should bring the child, safety seat and owners manuals for the vehicle and seat.
Having the child there allows inspectors to show parents how to properly adjust the seat to fit the child, Husz said.
“Whenever we put a car seat in, each seat is different and every car is different,” Husz said. “We look at the manual and see the details we need to know for the car seat to be safe.”
When parents leave, they will be able to properly install their car seat. Inspections take about 30 minutes per car seat.
The free inspections are by appointment only. Inspections are offered the first Thursday and third Tuesday of the month at the Sarpy/Cass Department of Health and Wellness, 701 Olson Drive, Suite 101.
Appointments can be made by calling 402-339-4224 extensions 210, 201 or 211.
