An Omaha man who was missing after some late-night drinking with co-workers was found Tuesday morning, suffering from injuries sustained in an accident on an all-terrain vehicle, according to the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office.
Robert Welchert III, 30, was flown to the Nebraska Medical Center in critical condition. A hospital spokesman said his condition remains in critical.
Lt. Randy Furby said Welchert and some co-workers were drinking Monday night at a business near Fairview Road and U.S. Highway 6. The co-workers told investigators that the man took a four-wheel ATV for a ride and never returned.
“The co-workers said they searched for him, but then they went home about midnight without telling anyone their friend was missing,” Furby said.
When the co-workers returned Monday morning, they continued the search and discovered Welchert at 8:30 a.m. about two miles south of Gretna. Furby said it appeared Welchert suffered multiple injuries, including severe trauma to his head.
