Escapee from Pender, Neb., jail caught in Norfolk

A jail escapee facing up to 100 years in prison was captured Thursday in Norfolk, authorities said.

Mark D. Kuehn, 39, was found about 5 p.m. in an apartment building. A vehicle that authorities believe he stole from Cuming County was found nearby, Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger said.

Kuehn escaped from the Thurston County Jail in Pender early Wednesday. Jailers have not said how he escaped.

Kuehn was convicted of felony theft and habitual criminal charges, but he has not yet been sentenced. He was in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Corrections in Lincoln Thursday night, Unger said.

More than $10,000 worth of construction equipment was taken in the thefts for which Kuehn was convicted.
