Carroll County opened 2-0 in the double-elimination event after victories over Omaha Westside (4-2) and Omaha Creighton Prep (3-2). Carroll County then lost 4-3 to eventual champion Burnsville, Minn., falling behind 4-0 after three innings before rallying. Ludwig had a pair of hits in defeat.

That sent Carroll County into an elimination game with Westside. The Iowans took a 5-1 lead into the bottom of the ninth, but allowed five runs and were eliminated. Ludwig finished 3 for 4, while Wessels and McAlister added two hits each.

Ludwig led the team in the tournament with a .438 average. Also from Kuemper, Wessels batted .375, Hilgenberg .313 and Halbur .294.
