GREENSBORO, N.C. — Nebraska Association athletes won 14 medals, including two golds, during the first five days at the U.S. Track and Field National Junior Olympics at North Carolina A&T.
Omaha Burke sophomore Andy Vasquez won the 15-16 boys 3,000-meter race walk in 15:07.63, and Lauren Harris of the Wings of Omaha Track Club won the 9-10 girls triathlon with 1,329 points. Harris also finished sixth in the high jump at 3-11?¼.
Association athletes also earned two silver and two bronze medals. Tierra Williams of Auburn was second in the 17-18 girls long jump (18-9) and Matthew Medill of the Lincoln Jets tied for second in the 9-10 boys high jump (4-3?¼).
Katelyn Gochenour of the Cornhusker Flyers and Logan, Iowa, finished third in the 15-16 girls discus with a throw of 133-6. Shelby Brown of the Lincoln Youth Track Club was fifth in the event with a 121-11.
Gochenour’s sister Kennedy finished third in the 13-14 javelin with a 104-11.
