Two Omaha girls were injured in a hit-and-run crash involving two pickup trucks Sunday evening at 39th and L Streets, police said.
They were taken by ambulance to the Nebraska Medical Center.
Camilla Avalos, 5, suffered abdominal injuries and was in serious but stable condition at the hospital Sunday night, Omaha Police Sgt. Jason Menning said.
Samantha Avalos, 10, whose injuries were not considered as serious, was being treated for abdominal and head pain, Menning said.
Witnesses told police that a white Ford F350, which had been speeding west on L Street, drove through a large puddle, lost control and slid across all the traffic lanes into oncoming eastbound traffic. The Ford collided with an eastbound 2012 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Jose Gildardo Avalos, 48, of Omaha.
He complained of back pain but was not taken to the hospital, Menning said.
Camilla and Samantha were back-seat passengers in the Chevrolet.
After the crash, the Ford was seen driving north on 39th before turning west on J Street.
