A white Hyundai Elantra caused a lot of commotion late Monday.
Omaha Police officers from Omaha's gang unit spotted the car, which matched the description of a vehicle connected to a shooting earlier in the day, and followed it about 11:15 p.m. as it traveled south on Benson Gardens Boulevard.
Larry Driver, 24, made an abrupt U-turn, clipping the officers' cruiser, before his car continued into an apartment parking lot, Sgt. Jon Waller said. There the occupants jumped from the rolling Elantra before it crashed into a garage, he said.
Officers caught Driver, who was taken by ambulance to Methodist Hospital with an arm injury, Waller said. But the hunt for the passenger continued through the neighborhood early Tuesday.
Driver was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen firearm, being a felon in possesssion of a firearm, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and obstructing a police officer.
The shooting happened about 5 p.m. near 36th Street and Redman Avenue. At 5:22 p.m., staff at Creighton University Medical Center reported that a gunshot victim, Lamont Slaughter, 23, had been taken there by private vehicle.
