U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer spent the Fourth of July visiting troops in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Fischer made the trip along with about a half-dozen other current and former members of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said Joe Hack, her spokesman.
Fischer has been in the Middle East since Sunday, visiting with officials in Jordan and Turkey about Syrian and Turkish issues. On Thursday, Fischer posted several pictures of herself with American soldiers to Facebook, along with a message: “These brave men and women sacrifice so much so we can enjoy our freedoms. I was honored to share this important day with our heroes, including many Nebraskans serving overseas.”
Hack said the trip is Fischer's second to Afghanistan this year. She visited shortly after she was sworn in in January, which was before President Barack Obama announced a draw-down of troops in February.
Fischer will return to the U.S. on Sunday, Hack said.
